Matt Chitwood

Matt Chitwood leverages a career focused on international business, economic development, and US-China relations to help clients develop strategic communications fit for today's complex geopolitics. As director of EGA's China portfolio, he helps clients on both sides of the Pacific navigate a challenging bilateral relationship and regulatory environment. As director of Global Voice, he works with EGA's regional offices to produce insightful thought leadership on pressing issues across regions and industries. He also works with global clients, including in MENA, on key issues such as sustainable development and climate policy.​

Previously, Mr. Chitwood spent fifteen years working in China in positions spanning journalism, international trade, public health, and higher education. He worked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the US State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship Program. He also spent two years researching rural economic and political issues while living in a remote village of 350 tea farmers in Yunnan province and is published in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Most recently, he joined EGA from his own venture managing strategic internal and external communications for corporate clients.​ Mr. Chitwood graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center. He speaks English, Mandarin, and Spanish, and is learning Arabic.​
