EGA Names Luis Montero as Head of Technology Policy

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — Edelman Global Advisory (EGA), Edelman’s government and public affairs business unit, announced today that Luis Montero will serve as US Head of Technology Policy, EGA.

Luis is a recognized industry strategist in technology public affairs, joining EGA with over 20 years of cross-sector experience developing and deploying integrated campaigns to drive policy impact. With a proven ability to counsel senior leaders and guide organizations during crises and reputational challenges, he brings his extensive experience navigating complex, matrixed environments and his deep industry network to lead EGA’s US Technology Policy team and help clients navigate complex regulatory and reputational environments.

Luis comes to EGA from Google, where he served as Head of Strategic Engagements in the Government Affairs and Public Policy division. In this role, he led efforts to strengthen relationships with global policymakers and industry leaders and drove the global strategy and rollout of one of the largest public surveys to date on attitudes toward artificial intelligence.

Prior to Google, Luis was at Microsoft where he spearheaded key communications initiatives, including the launch of an affordable housing initiative and a national cybersecurity skilling campaign. He also supported executive communications for Microsoft President and Vice Chair Brad Smith, including the rollout of his New York Times bestseller “Tools and Weapons,” and strengthened partnerships with the United Nations and other international organizations.

Luis’ experience cuts across sectors, geographies, and cultures. Earlier in his career, Luis held communications and policy roles at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle, the Open Society Foundations in London, and the UN in Geneva, Costa Rica, and New York. He served on the board of directors of Casa Latina in Seattle and as board chair of the College Success Foundation, a national nonprofit focused on supporting underserved, low-income students. He completed undergraduate work in political science at McGill University and Sciences Po Paris and holds a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University. Originally from Lima, Peru, and raised in Toronto, Canada, Luis is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and conversational in Portuguese.
