An Interview with Edgar Vazquez

Analyst, washington, dc, us

Edelman Global Advisory recently caught up with Edgar Vazquez on his professional experience, helpful career advice, and proudest moments from his career. See our interview below and keep up with Edgar on LinkedIn.

EGA: What excites you most about your role at EGA?

EV: My colleagues. This may sound clichéd, but let me try to add a little color to it because I think it is truly the best part of EGA. Each colleague brings a unique set of experiences and knowledge, allowing me to absorb and integrate these insights into my own approach to our clients. It's this constant exposure and exchange of ideas that not only excites me but also fosters a dynamic environment where learning is both the journey and the destination. Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a learning curve, but it is as rewarding as it is challenging, and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

EGA: What would you say is your personal area of expertise?

EV: I believe that as my skillset becomes more robust, my ability to integrate broadly across different sectors and teams improves. Working within EGA's International Public Affairs team, I've discovered that our collective success is rooted in our capacity to fluidly shift perspectives and approaches to align with the ever-changing dynamics of our clients' world– it’s about being able to dance to any song, regardless of the genre.

EGA: If you could give yourself one piece of advice at the start of your career, what would it be?

EV: Stop planning everything, a clear destination in mind is enough. Just as a pilot wouldn’t take off without knowing where to land, having a destination from the start greatly boosts the likelihood of the plane arriving at its desired location. Even when there’s unexpected turbulence, remind yourself that the original plan served its purpose by setting the course toward whatever the destination may be.

EGA: What past work project or accomplishment are you the proudest of and why?

EV: As I come close to my one-year mark at EGA, this interview has served as a reflection on my journey so far and brings me a feeling of gratefulness, especially considering I stepped into this role without prior experience in international affairs. I leaned into my desire to diversify my skill set to bridge that gap, immersing myself in a field I've grown to passionately enjoy. I can’t help but think my proudest achievements are yet to come.

EGA: What would you do if you weren’t doing this?

EV: I’d definitely still be in the policy space. My love for research and the art of coalition-building is too much fun to not be doing it for a living. That being said, my childhood dream was to become an astronaut.

EGA: If you could invite 3 people (living or dead) to a dinner party, who would you choose and why?

EV: Okay here we go. Baruch Spinoza, Georg Hegel, then, probably Ludwig Wittgenstein. All three are philosophers. I love philosophy.

EGA: How do you like to spend your time outside of work? Do you have any special hobbies or interests?

EV: When I’m not spending time with friends or playing chef after watching cooking videos on YouTube, I’m facetiming my family back home in Texas.
